AcroForm fields serve a similar purpose to tags, but differ in how they are created. Unlike tags, AcroForm fields can be added only using a PDF creation or editing tool (for example, Adobe Pro).
PDF editors provide predefined AcroForm field types—such as text fields, radio buttons, checkboxes, combo boxes, and signature fields—which can be directly inserted into a PDF document.
If an AcroForm field name contains specific characters, as described in the following sections, additional behavior or mandatory rules can be applied to the field.
The following prefixes for Acrofield names are currently in use:
